The Fashion Revival of 2014

Lana Del Rey, Marina and the Diamonds, Lorde, and Arctic Monkeys are just a handful of the artists who defined 2014. Coupled with the music was the grunge aesthetic. Doc martens, chokers, and leather jackets were all the rage. Stores like American Apparel, Brandy Melville, and Topshop were the places to go if you wanted to be a Tumblr girl. As time went on, the aesthetic began to fade with the emergence of 2016’s “Instagram baddie” and most recently 2022’s “clean girl.” However, grunge is making a reemergence. Rockstar boyfriends are all the rage (Kourtney Kardashian, Megan Fox, and Devon Lee Carlson). Platform docs are a staple in every closet and pastels are being replaced with moody tones. The 2014 Tumblr girl who loves Lana Del Rey and velvet chokers is back. Here are 5 of my favorite 2014 trends I hope to see come back in 2023!

1.     Tennis skirts: American Apparel’s tennis skirts were selling like hotcakes back then.

2.    Chokers: They just add a certain je ne sais quoi

3.    Crosses: Whether it’s cross earrings or a print on your sweater they just do it for me every time!

4.    Flower crows: CONTROVERSIAL I KNOW. It was the perfect festival look, so why not?  

5.    Dark lipstick: Sometimes a girl just wants berry toned lipstick instead of nude gloss.
